Dualita Architecture was founded in 2019 by J. Armando Hernández Varela with a clear vision: to redefine what an architecture firm can be. From the very beginning, the goal was to move beyond the limitations of the traditional firm model and create a practice where clients receive not only design excellence but also genuine care, attention, and a truly personalized experience.

Our size is one of our greatest strengths. Being a boutique firm allows us to remain flexible and adaptive, giving us the freedom to respond quickly to the needs of our clients without the heavy overhead costs of larger organizations. When projects require additional resources, we can expand our team by collaborating with trusted professionals, while still preserving the intimacy and focus that define who we are.

Based in Edmonton, Alberta, our firm is also registered in British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Each building we design is an opportunity to go beyond requirements, to craft spaces that enhance the lives of those who experience them, and to honor architecture as both a craft and a responsibility. ARMANDO HERNÁNDEZ

Architect AAA, AIBC, MAA, SAA

J. Armando Hernández Varela is the founder and principal architect of Dualita Architecture, bringing a globally informed design perspective and a disciplined, thoughtful approach to practice. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in Guadalajara, Mexico, and a Master of Architecture from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain. Specializing in architectural design, Armando’s work is defined by clarity, precision, and a balance of beauty and function. He is a registered architect with the AAA, AIBC, MAA & SAA and leads projects with a strong command of design development, project management, visualization, and building code compliance.

EICKERMAN CAMPOS

Designer and Project Manager

Eickerman Campos is a Designer and Project Manager at Dualita Architecture with over 24 years of experience in architectural design and project delivery. He brings a multidisciplinary approach that balances creative vision with technical precision across residential, commercial, and mixed-use projects. Eickerman holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, a Wood Construction Certificate from NAIT, and a Residential Interior Design Certificate from the University of Alberta.

His work is informed by a strong commitment to sustainable design, a collaborative project approach, and ongoing engagement with evolving design tools and technologies, ensuring thoughtful, well-resolved outcomes at every stage of a project.

CARLOS PROCEL

Designer and Project Manager

Carlos is a designer and technologist with over 13 years of professional experience working across Mexico and Argentina. His practice is grounded in a multidisciplinary approach that combines creative design thinking with strong technical execution, guiding projects from concept through detailed design and delivery. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the University of Guanajuato in Mexico and a Master’s degree in Architectural Project Design from the University of Buenos Aires. With a strong aptitude for problem-solving and advanced proficiency in architectural and design software, he contributes to complex projects through clear communication, collaborative engagement, and a consistent commitment to design quality.

SUMAN BHATHAL

Designer and Project Manager

Suman Bhathal is a Designer and Project Manager with over a decade of experience in architecture and interior design. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture and a Diploma in Interior Design, complemented by additional certifications in Commercial Interior Design, Home Staging, and Property Styling.

Her work is defined by a holistic approach that integrates architectural rigor with refined interior environments, ensuring spaces are both functional and thoughtfully composed. With experience spanning architectural development and interior-focused projects, Suman brings strong organizational skills, collaborative leadership, and a consistent commitment to design excellence at every scale.

JAGDEEP SINGH DHANOA

Intern Architect AAA

Jagdeep is an architectural designer whose work focuses on creating purposeful, sustainable spaces that respond thoughtfully to context and human experience. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture and a Master of Planning, providing a strong foundation in both architectural design and strategic thinking at the urban scale.

His approach balances aesthetic clarity with practical performance, guiding projects from concept through execution with care and precision. Through close collaboration and a clear understanding of client and community values, Jagdeep contributes design solutions that are enduring, responsible, and thoughtfully resolved.

JIMENA GALVIS

Designer and Technologist

Jimena is an Architectural Technologist and Designer with over ten years of professional experience across architectural, urban, and interior design projects. Her work is informed by a multidisciplinary perspective that balances functionality, aesthetic clarity, and innovation at multiple scales. With strong attention to detail, she supports projects from early concept through completion, ensuring designs are both technically sound and thoughtfully resolved.

Drawing on a diverse professional background and a collaborative approach, Jimena contributes design solutions that respond carefully to client needs while enhancing the way people experience the built environment.

PENNY MCKELVIE

Director of Operations

Penny Mckelvie oversees operations at Dualita Architecture, providing strategic and organizational leadership that enables the firm to operate with clarity, efficiency, and purpose. She holds a Diploma in Business Administration with a focus on Entrepreneurship and Innovation from NAIT and a Bachelor of Arts in Professional Communication from Royal Roads University. With expertise in operations management, project coordination, and marketing, Penny is responsible for optimizing workflows, implementing scalable systems, and aligning internal processes with the firm’s standards of excellence and integrity. Her role is central to ensuring the practice functions seamlessly and remains focused on delivering high-quality architectural work.
